Cultural Competency in Business

The world in which we live is becoming increasingly more diverse. In order to be able to effectively participate in a global marketplace, an awareness of the impact cultural competency has on the climate of your organization is a must. Establishing and maintaining an inclusive environment within your organization is a three-step process:

  1. Analysis:
    1. Examination of vision, mission, and goal statements
    2. Administer assessment instruments
    3. Gather assessment instrument data
    4. Report assessment data findings
    5. Create a plan of action
  2. Plan Implementation
    1. Commit to the plan of action
    2. Create a timeline for training sessions, monitoring implementation, and follow up
    3. Design a training session package based on the approved plan of action
    4. d. Incorporate instruments to monitor organization progress with plan implementation
  3. Training / Professional Development
    1. Provide training materials specific to the needs of the organization
    2. b. Align training sessions with vision, mission, and goals of the organization
    3. Utilize training session feedback instruments
    4. Report feedback instrument results
